Customized Massage Therapy

Like a great counselor, we put you and your goals at the heart of every session. There’s no cookie-cutter approach—just thoughtful, personalized care. We take time to understand your health history, hear your story, and offer supportive strategies that truly fit your life. Whether you're looking for a moment of calm in a busy week, navigating big life changes, training for a race, or working through chronic pain—we’re here to walk with you, every step of the way.

Personalized Care is
the Highest Standard

Our work beautifully complements other forms of care, including physical therapy, chiropractic and osteopathic treatments, sports medicine, and both acute and chronic pain management. We also support recovery from sports- or work-related injuries. Whether you’re drawn to deep, focused bodywork or prefer subtle, energy-based healing, we offer a range of techniques to meet your needs.

At the heart of what we do is helping the body and mind release old patterns—those deeply conditioned habits that can limit how we move, feel, and experience life. Through mindful touch and presence, we create space for new possibilities.

What Should I Wear for My Massage?

Your comfort is our top priority, from the moment you walk in to the moment you head back out into the world. Whether you arrive in business attire, gym clothes, or even pajamas—come as you are.

During your session, what you wear (or don’t wear) is entirely up to you. Some clients choose to remove undergarments for better access to areas like the lower back and hips, while others prefer to keep them on—and either way, you’ll always be appropriately draped. John and Kerri are trained in professional, respectful techniques to ensure you feel safe, supported, and fully at ease throughout your massage.

What Type of Massage is Best for Me?

At Intero, John and Kerri's goal is to work with you to understand your individual needs, and develop a course of treatment based on those needs. We won't use a formula or set sequence like Swedish Massage or Sports Massage or Thai Massage. Sure, we are familiar with most, if not all relevant modalities,  but we're more interested in getting to know what works best for you, and how you respond to our work together.

We also understand that people's needs and goals change over time, so we won't make assumptions about those as we get to know each other.

How Long Does a Typical Session Last?

For most appointments, we offer 60 and 90 minute appointment lengths. For John's work with DNS Breathwork, for those coming in with medical-related conditions, and children, he offers 30 minute session as well. Kerri offers 30 minute sessions for Lymphatic Drainage Therapy, and Transforming Touch for adults and children. John also offers 120 minute sessions.

The time length of the appointment includes consultation, time getting on and off the table, and the treatment itself. Time for consultation is just as important as the hands-on time, as it gives us ample time to understand your goals and health history. In fact, in a lot of initial or first-time sessions, John will review stretching and therapeutic exercises to provide additional resources for you to continue living your best life.

What Areas of My Body Will Be Massaged?

A full body massage can include some of all of the following: your back, neck, shoulders, hips, legs, arms, hands, feet, abdomen, and face. What areas we work with are determined when we discuss your goals. It also depends on the appointment length as well.

Not only do we ask about what areas of the body are asking for attention or are in need of TLC, but what areas of the body feel great to be massaged and stretched? These areas aren't always the same. Some of our clients really enjoy foot massage, so regardless of what we do during a session, we always include the feet.

Further, with medical conditions like TMJ dysfunction, John is trained to provide intraoral work to the muscles inside your mouth. Likewise, Kerri's work with Lymphatic Drainage Therapy often includes the more subtle structures around the neck, shoulders, and abdomen. This is also true for preparatory work for mammograms

Can I Request Specific Areas Be Focused On or Avoided?

Absolutely! At Intero, John and Kerri go out of their way to tailor each massage to your goals and needs. If there are areas you want us to spend more time on, we are happy to accommodate. Likewise, if some areas don't feel that great, we are happy to avoid them.

Will the Massage Be Painful?

Massage Therapy on the whole should not be painful. Depending on your goals for the appointment, we may address areas that are currently in pain, or are tight and tense. Those areas will often be more tender. Some areas will even refer pain to other places in the body. This is common with mechanical strain headaches. And while some people like a "hurt so good" approach, your massage should not be painful. There is a difference, and a highly skilled massage therapist understands that distinction.

There is this urban legend that modalities such as Structural Integration (also known as Rolfing) or Deep Tissue Massage will be painful. While there are some dated schools of thought that suggest this is true, there is no clinical evidence to support the idea that massage should be painful if it is to be effective

Pain is a complicated thing. It's important to find a massage therapist that can ask you the right questions and find a workable solution to offer relief and support.
